The Protactile Language Interpreting National Education Program (PLI) is part of the Research and Resource Center with Deaf communities at Western Oregon University. PLI’s educator team consists of individuals who are involved in Protactile Language research, education, and training, and are considered native language models.
Interpreter training can have a profound impact on the communities that interpreters grow with, work beside, and serve. Since 2016, PLI (formerly the DeafBlind Interpreting National Training & Resource Center) has worked to identify the core competencies of qualified interpreters who work with DeafBlind consumers, provided intensive and immersive training to interpreters across the United States, and curated related resources for an online repository. PLI strives to demonstrate our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through outreach and collaboration with diverse stakeholders who will encourage, challenge, and deepen our commitment to serve marginalized populations and to improve standards in interpreter education. |
